Editor’s Note: The results from the Nov. 3 General Election remain unofficial and ballots continue to be counted. Final results will be available at a later date.
We extend the warmest welcome to our new colleagues mayor-elect David Ortega and councilmembers-elect Tammy Caputi, Tom Durham, and Betty Janik.
We also congratulate all the candidates for the courage and hard work that we know it takes to run for office.
City Council elections are different from other elections. In most elections, the winners take office and the other candidates go home.
In City Council elections, we remain neighbors no matter the election outcome.
While the top vote-getters take office, it is important that we continue to listen and take input from everyone.
We know that all candidates care and want what is best for Scottsdale. Once on the dais, disagreements and passionate debates on projects coming before us are to be expected.
These conversations are crucial to a high functioning city government and enable the council to find common ground or common disagreements which will lead to better outcomes.
As we look forward to working with all of you, you can also look forward to working with exemplary city staff. As councilmembers, we are policy makers.
We rely on the Charter Officers and the talented staff to carry out policies.
You can be confident in their professionalism and commitment which enables us to fulfill our obligations to the community.
Congratulations to all of you. We are looking forward to working together for a better Scottsdale.
Editor’s Note: Kathy Littlefield, Linda Milhaven, and Solange Whitehead are elected members of Scottsdale City Council.
