Reaves: Applause for the champions of our democracy

Posted

Since the general election, Arizonans have watched disjointed and screeching groups of lawyers, politicians and citizens rage against our state’s election process and its outcome. The whole state seems exhausted.

But let’s take a moment away from the melee and give a round of applause to the quiet and composed champions of our democracy.

In churches, schools, malls and community centers across Scottsdale and the entire state, Republican and Democrat election workers labored side by side to make sure American democracy was protected.

These election workers faced historic challenges — a massive voter turnout, unprecedented mail-in balloting and a deadly pandemic — to safeguard the foundation of our nation.

As a member of the North Scottsdale Democrats, our neighborhood group wants to say thank you to these frontline warriors for democracy.

Frankly, a number of the candidates we supported lost in this election, but we honor the results and we respectively thank the hundreds of Republican and Democratic election workers who rolled up their sleeves and put on their masks to make sure Arizonans votes were counted.

We all owe a debt of gratitude to these Arizonans.
