A 75-year-old woman has died after a fatal collision occurred on the morning of Feb. 18, Scottsdale police officials say.

The deceased victim has been identified as Ann M. Theil, 75.

At approximately 8:40 a.m., Scottsdale police officers responded to the 9700 block of east Legacy Boulevard in reference to a motor vehicle collision involving two bicyclists, police officials say.

The investigation revealed that a 21-year-old driver of the motor vehicle was traveling eastbound on Legacy Boulevard when she failed to remain in her lane, police say.

The vehicle struck two cyclists, a male and female, both in their 70s, who were riding together in the eastbound bike lane.

Both cyclists were transported to an area hospital, with the male suffering non-life threatening injuries. Ms. Theila was pronounced deceased.

The driver remained on-scene and cooperated with investigators.

Neither speed nor impairment were determined to have been factors, police say. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Scottsdale has many miles of roadway perfect for cycling and beautiful weather in which to enjoy it. The Scottsdale Police Department would like to remind motorists to remain alert for cyclists.

Arizona law requires motorists to allow a minimum of three feet when passing cyclists on the roadway. Cyclists should utilize the bike lanes and paths available to them and are required to ride with the flow of traffic and obey all traffic laws. Share the road. Save a life.
