Detectives from Scottsdale Police Department arrested Phoenix resident Paul Anthony Ruiz, 25, on March 4 on numerous felony charges related to his involvement in the May 30-31, 2020, riots in Old Town Scottsdale.

Mr. Ruiz was identified as a suspect through his attempts to sell items stolen from Tiffany and Co. and Montblanc during the May riots, according to a press release from Public Information Officer Kevin Watts.

Additionally, he was captured on store surveillance video during the riots removing merchandise from the stores and was in possession of merchandise from the same stores at the time of his arrest, Mr. Watts said.

Mr. Ruiz was held on nine felony charges of burglary and trafficking stolen property.

This brings the total number of post-incident arrests to 55 for crimes committed during the May 30 and 31, 2020 riots.

Also, over $235,000 worth of merchandise has been returned to victim businesses.

"We are continuing to actively follow up on evidence, tips and information in a commitment to bring those responsible for criminal acts to justice. We will continue to provide updates as they become available," Mr. Watts said.
