Scottsdale Police Department detectives have identified and charged 47-year-old Rick Sagaser for his involvement in multiple Oct. 8 “swastika” graffiti incidents.
In October, detectives investigated five related graffiti cases where black swastikas were painted on sidewalks and walls in the area of 88th Street and Mountain View.
Sagaser was identified as a suspect after being arrested for aggravated assault on another homeless individual, police officials say.
On Oct. 29, he was interviewed in jail where he reportedly confessed to creating the graffiti in the five cases.
Sagaser admitted a past association with the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang and said he used the graffiti as protection from being assaulted by other homeless people, police say.
Sagaser is facing five counts of Criminal Damage and five counts of Assisting a Criminal Street Gang.
