Second through eighth grade students will take the stage on Nov. 22-24 as Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School celebrates its 10th anniversary of musical theatre productions.
One hundred students will be showcased in four performances of Disney’s The Lion King Jr., according to a press release.
Since the school’s first show, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, was announced in November 2010, more than 1,000 OLPH students have performed in the school’s nine musical productions.
The eighth graders in that first production graduated from college this year, the release said.
Mr. Terry Temple of Temple Music and Performing Arts has directed all nine productions, and will direct The Lion King Jr., the release noted.
His daughter, Emily Temple - a graduate of OLPH, Notre Dame Prep, and Azusa Pacific University - will return to her elementary school alma mater as assistant director and choreographer.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22; at 2 and 7:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at in OLPH’s “black box theatre” located 7655A East Main Street in Scottsdale.
OLPH’s productions have won 11 National Youth Arts Awards throughout the years, ranging from multiple “outstanding ensemble” wins to “outstanding production,” “outstanding direction,” and outstanding acting honors.
The school has also scored dozens of nominations, the release added.
