Old Town Scottsdale ramps, sidewalks, crosswalks to be replaced

Posted

In July and August, the city of Scottsdale will replace sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb ramps in historic Old Town to improve accessibility and make repairs to deteriorating crosswalks.

To minimize disruptions to businesses and patrons, some work will be done at night and be wrapped up early the following morning, according to a city announcement. Work not able to start at night will begin in the early morning hours.

Sidewalks and ramps will generally be reopened within 24-36 hours of being replaced. Sidewalks in front of business entrances will not be disturbed, and therefore access in and out of buildings will be maintained, the announcement stated.

Barricades and signage will protect patrons and guide them around the construction areas. Only one corner of each intersection will be under construction at a time, leaving the other three corners accessible for pedestrians.

The crosswalks will be replaced separately from the sidewalks and ramps and may be done at night or during the day depending on traffic control requirements and access needs. In some cases, the entire intersection will be closed to facilitate the work, but appropriate traffic control and signage will be in place to route drivers and pedestrians around construction.
