Indian School Park celebrates its 40th anniversary Nov. 16

Scottsdale’s parks and recreation department has slated November activities for residents of all ages, including a “Planksgiving” event for children on Nov. 23, and a bi-monthly senior storytelling series.

In addition, the department has announced the closure of Mountain View Park beginning Nov. 12 to install a new playground, and the closure of Cactus Aquatic and Fitness Center for bathroom and locker upgrades.

Celebrate Indian School Park’s 40th Anniversary!

Rediscover Indian School Park and Tennis Center by attending a 40th Anniversary celebration 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16 at Indian School Park. The event will feature a live band, story time at the playground, information booths and food vendors.

Ahoy, Matey! Don’t miss Planksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 23

Planksgiving, a fun pirate event for 5-12 year old youth will be held at Horizon Community Center, 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23.

Search for Horizon’s lost treasure, craft some Buccaneer garb, play games with the freebooters, and eat a hearty lunch on the crow’s nest. If ye old seadogs aren’t havin’ a good time, you’ll be asked to walk the plank!

Senior Storytelling

Stories create communities, societies and nations.

Share in celebrating each other’s stories and gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others at Horizon Community Center, 15444 N. 100th St., 10 a.m.-noon, the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. You can take advantage of getting to know others in the community.

Table Tennis

Stop by Eldorado Park Community Center 7-9 p.m, Wednesdays to play some table tennis!

Open play is available for all ages, levels and is free. Equipment provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Mountain View Park will be closed in November

Mountain View Park is getting a new playground! The playground will be closed starting Tuesday, Nov. 12, and the new, renovated playground will be open mid-December.

Cactus Aquatic & Fitness Center closed through Dec. 1

In order to complete work on the bathrooms and locker rooms, Cactus Aquatic & Fitness Center will be closed through Dec. 1.

During this time, the city has extended hours at the McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center (5.6 miles away), opened Chaparral Pool (7.8 miles away) for lap swim in the morning, and Eldorado Aquatic Center (9.3 miles away) also has lap swim hours available.
