Notre Dame Prep’s Evan Hendrix commits to Texas Christian University

Posted

Notre Dame Prep junior Evan Hendrix, 16, has officially committed to play volleyball for Texas Christian University.

The combination of the campus, the team and the leadership of TCU head coach Jason Williams were the deciding factors for Hendrix, according to a press release.  Hendrix spent the weekend of Sept. 4, touring the Fort Worth campus and watched the Frogs volleyball team compete.

“I played for Coach Williams a couple of years ago with USA volleyball, and so I know him pretty well,” said Hendrix in a prepared statement. “I think he is doing a really good job at TCU and bringing in some spectacular recruits, including one of my teammates from my club team.”

When not playing for the Saints, Hendrix plays for Revolution. She holds the record for number of “kills” in a season with 626 recorded last year. On Sept. 10, the junior hit a milestone as the third NDP Saint to record 1,000 kills. The other two players were Willow Johnson ’16 and Jessie Terlizzi ’20, the release stated.

Hendrix is the reigning 4A All-Conference and 4A West Valley Region Offensive Player of the Year for the 2021 season. She was instrumental in the Saints winning the 4A State Championship last year.

“Winning the state championship last year was by far my favorite memory at Notre Dame Prep,” Hendrix said. “That entire day from breakfast together, ‘serve and pass,’ listening to loud music on the bus, to playing in the finals was so exciting. We just knew it was our time.”

Hendrix, a former gymnast and dancer, started playing volleyball at age 7 after being told she was too tall to be a gymnast. Standing at 5-feet, nine-inches, she is on the shorter side for a volleyball player, “but what she lacks in size, she makes up with her 36” vertical jump,” the release detailed.

Noting the perfect fit for her collegiate career, Hendrix likened TCU to Notre Dame Prep.
“It’s a smaller school with a big school feel, and they have the same school colors,” she said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity and I’m excited to play at the college level.”

Notre Dame Prep is a Catholic diocesan college preparatory high school with a co-ed enrollment of 924 students. The school at 9701 E. Bell Road, in Scottsdale, has received national recognition for the caliber of its academic, arts and athletic programs, the release added.
