North Scottsdale United Methodist Church hosting ‘Blessing of the Backpacks’ party

North Scottsdale United Methodist Church will celebrate the new school year with a blessing, party and pretzels from the Mustache Pretzel Food Truck, with mustache-shaped pretzels, during the UMW Sunday worship service at 10 a.m., Sept. 12.

NSUMC will offer blessings on students, educators, their mobile devices and backpacks during the UMW Sunday worship service, plus hold a “Welcome Back to Sunday School” party with a balloon artist, photo booth, crafts, games and gourmet pretzels, according to a press release.

Free backpack tags will be given to all attending the service and party, the release said, noting the “backpack tag is constant reminder that God is with the students of our community in their daily life and that their church family will be praying for them throughout the year.”

The Sunday School Party will include a balloon artist. Youths can make balloon art for elementary children. Training and balloons will be supplied. Jonah crafts, photo booth, games and free pretzels from Mustache Pretzel Company Food Truck will be available to the first 50 students.

A financial donation will be blessed and shared with Vista del Camino Recreation Center — recreational facility in south Scottsdale that offers after-school care, clothing, food and financial support to less fortunate children —  to support families needing extra help at the beginning of a school year.

All are invited to be a blessing to other less fortunate children by making an online donation, noted the release.
