New COVID-19 cases continue downward trend with Sept. 7 report

Posted

The number of new positive COVID-19 cases continues to drop in the Scottsdale as the city's nine ZIP codes recorded 66 new cases during the past week.

In total, 5,520 total cases of COVID-19 mapped to Scottsdale’s nine ZIP codes were reported by the Arizona Department of Health Services on Sept. 7.

This continues a downward trend from the Aug. 31 report, which saw an increase of 76 new cases. The report from Aug. 24 showed an increase of 97 while the Aug. 17 report showed an increase  of 132 cases.

More than 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient’s residence. If the patient’s address was unknown the case was mapped to the address of the provider followed by the address of the reporting facility, according to the ADHS.

Data available through ADHS shows cases per ZIP code are reported as:

  • 85257: 1,092 cases (increase of nine);
  • 85251: 1,399 cases (increase of 16);
  • 85250: 322 cases (decrease of two);
  • 85258: 436 cases (increase of nine);
  • 85260: 815 cases (increase of 10);
  • 85259: 389 cases (increase of 24);
  • 85255: 815 cases (increase of 19);
  • 85266: 159 cases (increase of four); and
  • 85262: 114 cases (increase of five).

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
