How long have you been in business? Four years here in Scottsdale, 35 years at different hotels and restaurants in France.

Briefly describe your business/services offered: We are a family-owned and operated French restaurant. We love sharing our passion for French food with the community. I love combining traditional techniques with new flavors and the best ingredients to treat my guests to the best dishes from my country.

What made you choose this line of work and why is it important or interesting to you? I loved cooking from a very young age. My mother saw that and helped me get a week-long internship with a chef. The next year I enrolled in culinary school. Food is also a pleasure and dining can be a great experience. I like to help people discover this. I give the best of myself in my cooking. It is important to me to make sure to give the best experience possible to all of my guests.

At the end of the day, what brings you the most joy or is the most rewarding aspect of your job? People choose the place where they want to have lunch, dinner and to celebrate a special occasion or just the pleasure to go out. It is a great compliment when they choose yours and when they leave happy that is the best reward!

What separates you from your competition? Being a native to France, I have been trained by many master French chefs. Working in European kitchens is different than American ones. I believe it is this training and background along with my many years’ experience that distinguishes my cooking. We make everything from scratch at Voila and use the best ingredients – occasionally importing cheese, wine, herbs and a few other things from France. My wife who runs the front of the restaurant has also worked in the hospitality industry for 20 years and brings great skill and finesse to serving and treating our guests to the best experience.

Why did you choose to locate your business in the area? My wife and I fell in love with Scottsdale in 2007 when we stayed here for one night, just before we went to the Grand Canyon. Scottsdale is a little paradise in Arizona and probably our favorite place in USA.

Where are you from? I was born in North East of France. That’s where I grew up.

Who was the biggest influence in your life? My biggest influence has been all the great French chefs that I have been able to meet and work. I started working in kitchens when I was young and they helped influence and teach me the passion that is French cuisine.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a chef or in the restaurant industry? Be trained and/or be an apprentice with different chefs and if you can, travel to find your own cuisine.
