MCSO creates employee pantry to help during COVID-19 pandemic

Posted

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has united to help fellow employees who are having difficulty finding necessary items at the local stores.

MCSO employees can donate to the “Employee Pantry” for fellow employees in need, according to a press release.

The MCSO Community Outreach Division is spearheading the initiative and working  with MCSO Patrol District and Detention Liaisons to collect and distribute key items, throughout the office, including diapers, wipes, baby formula, soap, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, bleach, rice, dry pasta and beans.

The office is also using outside resources and community partnerships to provide needed items, the release said, recognizing an overwhelming community support  in helping provide the essential items to employees.

Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone noted the health and safety of employees as a “number-one priority,” he said in a prepared statement.

“Unlike a majority of the community, first responders and detention staff cannot stay home. We must continue safeguarding our communities, and we need to make sure our employees and their families are provided their essential daily resources,” he said.

“We must rise to the challenge and band together to overcome this, and I firmly believe our ability to overcome will be dependent on our commitment to our co-workers and our local communities. I want to express sincere gratitude to those organizations and community members that have stepped up to the plate in this time of need.”

Any items that are not used, once the COVID-19 pandemic is over, will be donated to local nonprofit organizations on behalf of the MCSO employees, the release added.
