McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park will soon be getting a new and larger restroom for local families and park-goers to utilize.
The Scottsdale City Council approved a construction bid award for the park restroom building replacement totaling $722,000. The bid award was approved on consent by the council at its Nov. 12 meeting.
Funding for the new lavatories will come from revenue collected by McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park and the parks and recreation department General Fund operating budget.
The approved construction bid award was given to Straight Arrow Contracting, LLC, the lowest responsive bidder with a price of $575,000 for construction of the restrooms.
The purpose of the City Council action is to create, fully fund and award a contract for the restroom replacement construction. The existing restroom in the south end of the park was built in 1982 and does not have the capacity to support the demand of largest events hosted at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E. Indian Bend Road.
The proposed improvements will demolish and reconstruct a larger restroom facility to address the lack of capacity and update the facility to match the “Train Depot” theme the park maintains, a city staff report states.
The city has a Capital Improvements Program project for the replacement of the park restrooms and storage buildings at four city parks. McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is included as one of the four; however, this specific restroom is not part of that scope of work, the staff report states.
The $722,000 cost includes design, construction, administration and contingency.
In April, the railroad park won a national award, the Engaging Local Government Leaders Knope Award for best local parks and open spaces. The park attracts approximately 1 million visitors a year, the report states.
