Marathon brings closures to Scottsdale road

Marathon brings closures to Scottsdale road

The Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona Marathon race will bring in a host of road closures along with Scottsdale’s typical closures on Arizona Loop 101 and Hayden Road.

The event will host a marathon and a half marathon that will race through Scottsdale. The marathon begins in downtown Phoenix and involves portions of Scottsdale while the half marathon begins in Tempe, loops through south Scottsdale before finishing in Tempe.

Scottsdale closures will include the following:

  • Indian School Road from 48th Street to Goldwater Boulevard 6:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.
  • Goldwater Boulevard from Indian School Road to Second Street 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Northbound Goldwater Boulevard from Second Street to Marshall Way 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • First Avenue from Goldwater Boulevard to Marshall Way 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Second Street from Goldwater Boulevard to Marshall Way 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Marshall Way from First Avenue to Goldwater Boulevard 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Main Street from Marshall Way to Goldwater Boulevard 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Southbound Hayden Road from McKellips Road to McDowell Road 6:30-10:45 a.m.
  • Eastbound McDowell Road from Scottsdale Road to Hayden Road 6:30-11 a.m.
  • McDowell Road from 64th Street to 54th Street 6:30-11 a.m.
  • 74th Street from McDowell Road to Belleview Street 6:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Northbound Scottsdale Road from McDowell Road to Thomas Road 6:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Westbound Thomas Road from Scottsdale Road to 64th Street 6:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Southbound 64th Street will be closed from Thomas Road to McDowell Road 6:30-11:45 a.m.

Other non-race related restrictions include McDonald Drive from Pima Road to Cattletrack Road starting Jan. 27 and continuing until Feb. 10. McDonald Drive will see multiple lane strictions on weekdays during that span.

The Sweetwater Avenue and 100th Street intersection will see multiple lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays from Jan. 21-31 for Americans with Disabilities Act ramp work.

Starting Jan. 20, there will be restrictions on northbound Hayden Road from McKellips Road to Moreland Street, running until Jan. 31. This thoroughfare will reduce to one lane for utility work.

The Legacy Boulevard and Hayden Road intersection will also see multiple lane restrictions through Jan. 24. There will be more lane restrictions at the McDonald Drive and Hayden Road intersection from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. weekdays until Jan. 28 for utility work.

The Loop 101 widening will continue in north Scottsdale with shifted traffic between Scottsdale and Hayden roads as crews build a new bridge over the future Miller Road extension. This shift, which has no plans for a reduction lanes, will be in place until August 2020.
