Manross: Greenburg presence is distraction to Scottsdale school district

Posted

This is not a joke and this is not a drill. The city I love has been damaged.

People around the globe have read the recent reports on Scottsdale’s school board and are asking how this happened in our great community.

Last night Jann-Michael Greenburg was removed as president of the school board by a vote of his peers. If he has any integrity, he will follow their request that he resign immediately.

When I took the oath to become an officer in the USAF it included the following: “I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

The oath has no date of expiration. Every public official in the country takes that same oath to defend the Constitution. And yet, here in Scottsdale, the very first amendment to the Constitution which guarantees freedom of speech appears to have been disregarded.

Jann-Michael Greenburg’s continued presence on the school board is a serious distraction and is damaging to all 22,000 Scottsdale students and all district employees.

Editor’s Note: Larry Manross is a Scottsdale resident and husband of former mayor Mary Manross.
