Police arrest man in Scottsdale Quarter stabbing

A 38-year-old man has been booked into the Scottsdale City Jail on charges connected to a stabbing Monday morning near the Scottsdale Quarter.

Marco Antonio Aguilera faces felony and misdemeanor charges, police said.

Aguilera and a security guard were injured Monday morning during a fight at the shopping mall in north Scottsdale, police said.

Police responded to a call to assist security about 12:40 a.m. May 29 at the Scottsdale Quarter. The fight could be seen via traffic cameras at Scottsdale Road and Butherus, and a crime center operator guided officers to the location, police said.

The first officers to arrive found “a security guard suffering from multiple stab wounds to his hip area. The security guard was physically restraining a subject on the ground who had incurred a stab wound to his back,” police said, adding the suspect was taken into custody.

Both of those involved were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a release from the Scottsdale Police Department.

Aguilera’s charges include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and four separate misdemeanor warrants from a jurisdiction outside of Scottsdale, police said.

Another man identified as Michael A. Whitson, 44, was arrested and booked and released on one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
