A security guard was shot Sunday afternoon at a Scottsdale hospital, and a suspect is in custody, police said.
No identities were released Sunday following the shooting that occurred shortly after 1 p.m. March 2 inside the emergency room at HonorHealth near 90th Street and Shea Boulevard.
The shooting suspect was brought into the hospital by a family member as a “potential patient,” according to a Scottsdale Police Department release.
“While inside the ER, there was an altercation with the suspect and security which escalated into the suspect shooting a security guard in the upper body,” the release stated.
Hospital security and staff helped subdue the suspect and disarm him as police were responding, authorities said.
A handgun was recovered, and the suspect was arrested.
The shooting victim was taken to a trauma center for additional care.
The only other reported injury was a minor hand/wrist injury to another security guard, police said.
The hospital is open and accepting emergency room patients and walk-ins, the release stated.
