Letter questioning retirees’ support of Trump sparks agreement

I agree with John Nelson’s letter about our investments and the current stock market losses.
I remember reading in the Independent letters from people complaining about Biden’s term in office. The cost of eggs, which have not gone down; the cost of gas, as if the president controls gas prices; and even complaints about higher interest rates.
Do seniors realize unless they are attempting to borrow money, higher interest rates benefit savers? Treasury bills, bank interest on savings and CD rates were all higher then. Why were people complaining that they made more money on investments that had guaranteed returns?
When I ask some voters, “are you tired of winning?” The reply always is “The market will come back.” We know that, but how long will it take? How many years before us savers recoup our losses?
Every month when we withdraw living expenses, our saving dwindle down even faster.
For years, withdrawals were partially offset by market gains.
I can guarantee that if Biden had started a trade war and people lost 9% of their savings, they would be screaming.
