Jackson: Why I’m voting for Pete Buttigieg

Posted

For months, a large group of volunteers have been holding meet ups in your neighborhoods, posting signs, and have been working for a candidate they believe in.

I joined in volunteering for Pete Buttigieg because his message of positivity, service, and working hard for a better future isn’t just lip service.

It’s different to see someone so young and energetic, who is also so prepared for all the challenges he faces. You don’t catch Pete off guard, his answers are comprehensive and filled with the positivity his campaign exemplifies.

His campaign doesn’t seek to take advantage of anger, he focuses on sincerity and his vision to make America a better place for everyone.

James Monroe called the military “a school of instruction in the knowledge of mankind, in the science of government, and ... inculcating on the youthful mind those sound and moral political principles on which the success of our system depends.” Pete had that instruction.

I enlisted at 17 and served in Iraq, Pete’s service matters to me. He’s not a war hero, but he’s one of those who signed up and drove through a combat zone into danger on multiple missions.

In the army we learned that in order to lead you must be able to be led, that saying goes to the heart of why his service matters. Pete left a good job to run for mayor, then volunteered to leave that powerful position to serve under others in the military. He continuously opts to serve this country at times when others would take from it.

Aside from service, Pete shows determination in how hard he works and how available he makes himself. In Iowa, he did as many as five events a day. Just two days before the Iowa caucus, Pete went on six news (including Fox) networks to answer tough questions personally.

Mayor Pete is a candidate who can win in November and do great things for our country. I hope you’ll join me in voting for him in the upcoming Democratic Presidential Primary.
