Inaugural wiffle ball tournament coming to Scottsdale

8 teams face off, raise money for Miracle League Arizona

Competitive wiffle ball is coming to Scottsdale this month.

The inaugural Spring Classic, a one-day Big League Wiffle Ball tournament, will go from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 23 at Miracle League Arizona, 11130 E. Cholla St. The event merges wiffle ball competition with a fundraiser for a great cause, raising money to support Miracle League Arizona’s mission of providing a fun, safe and inclusive baseball experience for fans with special needs.

The event will feature eight teams with three-to-six players apiece battling it out for the top title, with each team guaranteed to participate in two pool play games lasting either four innings or one hour; whichever happens first.

All eight teams then advance to a single-elimination playoff bracket, with the winning team taking home a commemorative trophy.

Unlike in traditional wiffle ball, there won’t be any base-running, with designated hit zones instead determining if each hit constitutes a single, double, triple or home run while keeping the action fast-paced.

“The Spring Classic is more than just a competition, although we definitely anticipate all teams bringing their A-game,” Logan Rose, who founded Big League Wiffle Ball in his own backyard in 2020, shared in a press release. “It’s also about raising money for the Miracle League and the great work they’re doing to make sure all fans get to enjoy a ball game, regardless of special needs or abilities.”

Tickets are $10, and children under 13 are free. Click here for tickets.
