With the support of the local community, Hunkapi Programs, an equine therapy farm in Scottsdale, announced it raised $102,000 at the fourth annual Open Your Heart Gala.

More than 190 guests attended the signature event, on Oct. 11 and celebrated the nonprofit’s 20th anniversary with a farm-to-table dinner catered by Chef Doug Brochu from Catering Hands Cuisine, according to a press release.

“The magical gala showcased everything that it means to be a part of the Hunkapi family,” Terra Schaad, founder of Hunkapi Programs, said in a prepared statement.

“We celebrated our horses, our clients and the incredible community of friends and allies who give all they can to keep the farm running.”

The night’s festivities took place on the farm’s Manna Lawn, which was transformed by the design team at Southwest Teepee Rental. Notable guests included Phoenix Police Chief Jerri Williams, Phoenix Fire Chief Kara Kalkbrenner and Scottsdale Police Chief Alan Rodbell.

Live auction items included a private local wine tour at Pillsbury Wine Company’s vineyard in Willcox, a day as a Phoenix fireman including lunch with Ms. Kalkbrenner and a day as a Phoenix officer complete with a helicopter tour alongside Ms. Williams.

The night ended with a parade of a selection of the therapy horses, which program clients and volunteers accompanied.

All funds raised from the event are allocated to a wide array of services offered by the nonprofit, including therapeutic riding, counseling, emotional regulation, team building and addiction recovery.

Clients who participate in Hunkapi’s programs include those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, emotional disorder, addiction disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
