Huizar: Amid failing students, Scottsdale school board needs to resign

Posted

Only 60% of Scottsdale students tested “proficient” in English Language Arts and math!

According to a letter sent on June 1, 2021, from the president of the SUSD Governing Board, only 60% of Scottsdale students and 66% of 3rd grade students tested as “proficient” in English Language Arts and math.

Furthermore, 16% of 8th graders are performing three or more grade levels below.

At the Governing Board meeting on Aug. 24, President Greenburg announced that SUSD saw a decline in enrollment for the 2021-22 school year of approximately 200 students.

With failing students and declining enrollment, it appears that the current board seems to be bent on the pursuit of “everything” except excellence in education. It is time to get back to the basics Scottsdale Unified School District, and to do so, we need a new Governing Board.

With so many distractions being created by this Governing Board, I think that it is best to let the facts speak for themselves without diluting this op-ed with too many of my opinions.

Scottsdale Unified School Board needs to resign!
