Celebrate Mother’s Day with events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8 in Historic Downtown Glendale.

Start the adventure at the Arizona Information Center located at Memory Lane Trinkets and Treasures, 5836 W. Palmaire Ave. Downtown Docents will provide event information and provide the activity list and walking map.

There will be things to do along the way, including make-and-take activities, artist demonstrations, photo ops, gift ideas at the locally owned shops and menu items and treats at eateries.

“The locally owned businesses in the Catlin Court and Old Towne shopping and dining districts have created this event to celebrate the treasured love of moms,” Lorraine Zomok, event co-chairperson and owner of Memory Lane Trinkets and Treasures, stated in a news release.

New this year, Arizona Christian University will present Pedestrian Sounds. The project will feature faculty and undergraduate music students who will perform outdoors as part of an interactive and safely distanced project. Sound spot circles will be placed along sidewalks for pedestrians to step on and walk across while live music plays inviting the participant to compose musical soundscapes as they walk.

The project is sponsored by the City of Glendale’s Performing Arts Partnership Program.

This year’s Mother’s Day event honors the Blue Star Moms of the Southwest Valley, which sends monthly care packages to deployed military. Event attendees are encouraged to bring care package donations to the Arizona Information Center, 5836 W. Palmaire Ave., on event day. A list of needed items is available online at VisitDowntownGlendale.com.

A few of the requested items include lip balm, foot care products, brand name Q-tips, crossword/sudoku/puzzle books, individually wrapped hard candy, packs of gum and disposable razors. Items collected will be packaged and shipped to deployed military throughout the world.
