Gary Bruce Drumheller

Posted

Gary, of Sun City, Arizona, died December 23, 2020, of complications associated with the Corona Virus at 76 years of age. Gary passed away with his loving wife at his side. Gary was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to Calvin and Marion Drumheller, on November 3, 1944.
This is not so much a requiem of Gary’s death, but more so recognition of a life well spent. Gary was a barber by trade starting as an apprentice at 14 years of age and retiring in March 2019.
Gary served with the U.S. Army 82 Airborne Division in Vietnam in 1968-1969.
He was an avid Elk member, joining the Pottstown Elks lodge #814, and transferring to the Sun City Elks Lodge on November 20, 2001, being a member for 32 years. Once joining the Sun City Elks Lodge, Gary became a passionate member of its Veterans program. He became the lodge’s Veterans Chairman and advanced as the Elks West District Chairman and finally to the Elks Arizona State Veterans Chairman, where he served until his death. Gary also served with the Elks National Veterans program having responsibility of all the Veterans Homes in the State of Arizona. He was so well respected for his Veterans Service that he was often asked to speak about Veterans affairs at the Elks National Conventions. At the Veterans home, he provided the residents with monthly bingo events, breakfasts at IHOPs, big band and magic shows and annual Christmas parties. He hosted fund raisers to provide cash for his many endeavors, primarily the “Honor Flight” program, where he provided for 35 World War 11, 36 Korean and approximately 18 Vietnam Veterans to take that Prestigious trip at absolutely no cost to the Veterans. He adopted several local Veteran facilities, most notably, the M.A.N.A. House Facility (Marine, Army, Navy, Air Force), U.S. Vets, Paralyzed Veterans and Victory Place Facilities. At Victory Place, he arranged for 53 new units to be completely equipped with all of the appliances required. He hosted numerous bowling events and dinners at the Elks lodge. Under his chairmanship, Gary raised in excess of $3 million in nonperishable goods.
Gary is survived by his wife Jackie, son Gary II (Joan), brothers Dennis (Arlene) and James (Linda), sister Susan (Jim) Gardner; Jackie’s two daughters, Beverly Webster and Karen Goederz; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Rest in peace Gary, you are already missed.
