Farmer: We can all do better at electing leaders

A response to Cantor’s opinion

It is interesting to read an obviously educated opinion that is so far off the mark.

I cannot be the only one that recognized that the Liberals (Democrats) always accuse Republicans of acts that the Democrats have already accomplished.

Donald Trump continues to be judged as a politician, when he is actually a businessman. Politicians are trained from birth to not say anything that could be used against them.

Successful businessmen are prone to speak their mind. There was great angst when President Trump announced we were going to leave NATO. What really happened is he announced the outrageous to prod other members to pay their “fair share.” Membership was used as a negotiating tool.

What do we have to be pleased with every other word the president speaks? There is no “right” to not be offended.

Instead of analyzing every word, analyze the results of his actions. For the first time in many years, the United States was energy independent. Everyone who was employable had a job. Incomes from the middle class were rising. Our trade deficits were shrinking. And taxes were down.

All of these changes were created by President Trump’s policies. Remember, he donated his salary to charity, and left office with a smaller net worth than when he entered office.

As far as wanting to “rule,” you must be referring to someone else.

President Trump did nothing to “rule” the American people. Democratic mayors and governors and recently our president, are the ones to “rule” their citizens. They imposed restrictions and closed businesses tat may never reopen.

President Biden just announced a requirement for people to be vaccinated. He realized he lacked the legal authority, so he proposed a “workaround” by having OSHA create the requirement. I question the authority to make such a rule.

As far as “lie, cheat and steal,” the liberals have perfected the ability to carry this off.

Lying comes natural to politicians.

It is our duty as citizens to elect politicians that will protect us and our country. The United States is a relatively young country on the world stage.

We have achieved greatness that is unparalleled in the world. We have created wealth beyond any other civilization.

Our environment is cleaner than any industrialized nation. We can make it cleaner, but we have to balance the economy with the environment. We give away money to other countries around the world to help them prosper.

We need to do a better job of electing leaders. We need to investigate their history and make sure they agree with our beliefs.

That applies to the president as well as all other elected officials right down to the dog catcher.

We should not have career politicians. Our Founders did not envision such a system of career politicians, but of citizen representatives to direct the government.

We can do better.
