Desert Stages Theatre to host ‘Murder on the Nile’

Desert Stages Theatre announced the opening of the adult show “Murder on the Nile” for Friday, Jan. 10 in the Actor’s Cafe at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

“Murder on the Nile” is a 1944 murder mystery play by crime writer Agatha Christie, based on her 1937 novel “Death on the Nile.”

This mystery play portrays Kay Ridgeway --- who has led a charmed life blessed with beauty, enormous wealth and a new husband --- as she embarks on a honeymoon voyage down the Nile.

Fatal circumstances await when a shocking and brutal murder shatter the idyllic surroundings. A multitude of memorable passengers are all under scrutiny and all with a reason to kill. The tension and claustrophobia builds, as a shocking and audacious conspiracy is laid bare.

“Murder on the Nile” saw a brief Broadway run at the Plymouth Theatre in New York in 1946 where it ran for 12 performances.

In 1978, Ms. Christie’s novel “Death on the Nile” was adapted into a movie of the same name directed by John Guillermin and starring Peter Ustinov. The film won an Oscar in 1979 for Best Costume Design as well as a Golden Globe nomination in England for Best Foreign Film.

This Desert Stages Theatre production will feature director Mark-Alan C. Clemente who has directed several DST shows including a sold out extended run of Ms. Christie’s “The Mousetrap” and the critically acclaimed Neil Simon’s “Lost In Yonkers.”

Performances will run Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. from Jan. 10 to Feb. 23. Tickets are available online or at the box office.
