Desert Stages Theatre presents the opening of the Tony award-winning musical, “Annie” on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

Based on Harold Gray’s 1920’s comic strip “Little Orphan Annie, ” this Desert Stages Theatre production of “Annie” is directed by Gary Crumm with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and accompanied by the book by Thomas Meehan, according to a press release.

“Annie” is partially sponsored by Desert Diamond Casino. Performances will run Nov.22-Dec. 22 with shows at 7:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday; and at 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, the release noted.

Little orphan Annie “charms everyone’s hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City,” as she is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage that is run by the embittered Miss Hannigan, the release said.

With the help of the other girls in the orphanage, she escapes and goes on an adventure including befriending President Franklin Roosevelt, described the release, detailing how Annie finds a new home and family with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a mutt named Sandy.
