The results of the general election are complete, and the outcome is disappointing. We never let up after the primary, talking to residents and businesses all over the city. We maintained a positive, forward-thinking, independent message and refused to get drawn into negative campaigning, but unfortunately this was an anti-incumbent cycle that seemed to value partisanship over merit; the undervotes were impossible to overcome.
I’m proud that despite both parties working against us, over 50,000 residents entrusted me with their vote; about 1% shy of the amount needed. I’m honored to have served the people of Scottsdale and grateful to everyone who supported me through your votes, donations, volunteer hours, yard signs, walking your neighborhoods with me, sharing your thoughts and ideas, and listening to mine. I have a great and committed team; we truly “left it all on the field.”
It’s been four years of full-time commitment to the work of city council. My campaign did not end in 2020 after the election. I worked hard every day listening to all stakeholders and using facts, data, and good judgment to carefully analyze each issue that came before me to make decisions that benefited our entire community. I’m so proud of the work we’ve done in the last four years, it’s truly made a difference that will have a positive impact on our future. I’m grateful to live in this amazing city and to have played a part in its continued success.
I will not miss the dark parts of the job. Disagreeing on policy is healthy. Spewing personal insults and creating chaos, division and animosity should be actively resisted. I urge my colleagues to prevent the toxic individuals in our community from driving the narrative, influencing our future and keeping good people from public service. Scottsdale is better than that.
Thank you to all my friends who’ve reached out to me over the last few days with love and gratitude and well wishes. Successful cities do not stagnate; let’s keep the positive momentum going!
