Canvas & Couture fuses fashion and art into a floral extravaganza

Scottsdale Artists’ School FASHION IS ART at the Second Annual Canvas & Couture 2020 event supports SAS and showcases the fusion of art and fashion.

Canvas & Couture is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., April 4 on the grounds of the Hotel Valley Ho where a fashion runway will be transformed into a floral extravaganza of color, according to a press release, inviting guests to dress in a “fabulous floral style” for this one-of-a-kind event.

Canvas & Couture is sponsored by Doreen Picerne, a philanthropist, entrepreneur and fashionista; and Robert Black, founder of the international model and talent agency Ford Robert Black Agency.

They co-own Fashion by Robert Black and are both long-time supporters of Scottsdale Artists’ School, according to the release.

“Last year Canvas and Couture had striking models grace the runway with vintage pieces from all over the world and it was a great success, especially for being its inaugural year,” said Mr. Black in a prepared statement.

The show was full of bold, beautiful colors with an energy that set Taliesin West’s atmosphere on fire. This year, we wanted a completely different kind of beautiful. We decided on floral as the theme; Doreen and I have been selecting pieces, for several months, that we know our fashion devotees will love.”

Mr. Black added that the venue added to the excitement of the event as the Hotel Valley Ho was “delightful to work with and we are looking forward to hosting this fun event in another of our city’s architectural landmarks.”

Scottsdale Artists’ School, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is noted to have been a prominent influence in the art community while teaching the fundamentals of fine art to artists and aspiring artists of all ages and skill levels.

Proceeds from Canvas & Couture will support the school’s programs offered to a wide range of students including: children, adults, families, public schools, education facilities, shelters, rehabilitation services and many who may not be able to receive this education without assistance, the release said.

Each ticket includes a signature cocktail to compliment the theme, a light lunch, the option to purchase tickets for raffle gifts and a one-of-a-kind runway fashion presentation.

VIP guests will be seated beside the runway and receive a special VIP gift bag, added the release.

Tickets for the event are $125 and $200. A portion of each ticket purchased may be tax deductible.
