The Brophy Broncos continue their undefeated season after a dominating win against the Notre Dame Preparatory Saints last week.
The Broncos are currently 5-0 and proved they can be very effective on both sides of the ball during big games. Both teams entered the game undefeated, but there can only be one winner. Brophy’s red-hot offense and lockdown defense led the Broncos to commanding 40-0 victory.
Head coach Jason Jewell mentioned his effective game plan to overcome the Saints.
“Our game plan was to eliminate turnovers and shut down NDP’s run game,” he said. “We were effective at both. Offense had just one turnover, which came in the second half and the defense held NDP to under 50 yards rushing.”
The Broncos defense shut every aspect of the Notre Dame Prep’s offense down. The Saints were missing senior star and Oregon commit wide receiver Cooper Perry. This gave the Broncos advantage to only focus on Notre Dame Prep’s run game.
“Notre Dame Prep’s star WR Cooper Perry did not play,” Jewell said. “That severely limited them in the passing game. We knew we could focus on stopping their run game.”
Offensively, Brophy couldn’t be stopped in the first half. Junior quarterback Case Vanden Bosch was a man on a mission during this game. Vanden Bosch threw for 227 passing yards, had one passing touchdown and 117 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns.
“We had a breakout game throwing the ball, so that is what I was most proud of last week. We have been able to run the ball well in all games but have struggled at times throwing it, so it was nice to have that success,” said Jewell.
Brophy had a lot of experienced players shine in this game and that level of maturity was seen in the big game.
“We had a lot of kids play well, in fact, I believe we got every kid on our roster in the game,” Jewell said. “Many kids played well. Some that come to mind are senior Dominic Woods, senior Matt Hernandez, Case Vanden Bosch, Junior Daylen Sharper and Junior Devin Fitzgerald.”
The Broncos have another big game coming up against the second ranked school in Arizona, the Basha Bears at home on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
