North Scottsdale United Methodist Church (NSUMC) is gearing up for a celebration as a new school year kicks off. Community members are invited out Sunday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. for their “Blessing of the Backpacks,” a special worship service featuring blessings for kids, educators and even their mobile devices and backpacks.

This event is free and open to everyone, according to a press release. Also, every student who attends will receive a free backpack tag, what NSUMC calls “a constant reminder that God is with them in their daily life, and their church family is praying for them throughout the school year.”

NSUMC pastors will offer blessings on the students and educators.

“Teachers, we've got something special for you, too,” the release continues. “The first 20 educators to sign up at the NSUMC greeters’ desk on Aug. 11 will receive a $25 Amazon gift card to help with classroom supplies. Just bring your current school ID to participate.”

Participants are asked to consider donating backpacks and school supplies, which will be blessed and distributed to families in need through Vista del Camino Community Center.

North Scottsdale United Methodist Church is located at 11735 N. Scottsdale Rd. For more information, visit nsumc.com.
