Allyson Beckham will serve as the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board president for 2020 while Patty Beckman will serve as vice president.
The board unanimously elected Ms. Beckham and Ms. Beckman to their roles at its Jan. 7 meeting. Ms. Beckham served as vice president and Ms. Beckman served as president in 2019.
Ms. Beckham, entering her fourth year on the Governing Board, says in her new role as president, she has outlined three short-term goals she believes reflect the board’s vision for the district.
They start with supporting Superintendent Dr. John Kriekard’s efforts to complete board-established, quarterly priorities before his June 30 retirement, according to a press release.
“Second, I will continue to work for effective communication with the Governing Board,” she said during the meeting. “Third, I will continue to advocate for collaboration and listening to all voices of our community: students, parents, teachers, administrators and our community at large.”
Ms. Beckham said her focus will be on the students.
“My hope is that the Governing Board will support innovation and active participation to improve students’ experiences and academic achievement in the year ahead,” she said.
Ms. Beckman says she looks forward to adding to the District’s “tremendous positive progress” of last year.
“I am fully committed to serving the SUSD community in any role so we may continue our efforts of ensuring each student reaches their academic potential,” she said during the meeting
Returning members Jann-Michael Greenburg, Sandy Kravetz and Barbara Perleberg round out the five-member board that oversees SUSD’s 29 K-12 schools.
