Arizona has rightfully earned its place as one of the world’s premier destinations for exotic and collector car shows. In fact, when considering car culture on a per-capita basis, the state may very well be the global leader. This automotive mecca thrives for two key reasons: its climate and its large population of retirees and winter residents.
First, Arizona’s year-round sunny weather, with minimal rainfall, creates the perfect environment for preserving cars. Unlike regions plagued by corrosive climates, Arizona’s dry heat allows vehicles to last longer, making it a natural haven for car enthusiasts.
Second, Arizona’s appeal to retirees — many of whom are financially well-off and passionate about cars — has fostered a rich car culture. Snowbirds who flock here in the winter bring with them an enthusiasm for vehicles that’s hard to match, and many own multiple high-end cars, further fueling Arizona’s automotive passion.
As a result, car shows have flourished across the state, especially in the greater Phoenix area, with Scottsdale at the forefront.
For first-time attendees, the diversity of vehicles at these events is part of the charm. Car shows in Arizona aren’t limited to just cars; you’ll also see an impressive range of pick-up trucks and SUVs.
Each show typically has its own theme, with some focusing on American classics and muscle cars, while others highlight high-performance sports cars from coveted brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche. You’ll encounter everything from vintage models dating back to the 1900s to the latest limited-edition releases.
One of the best aspects of these events is the willingness of owners to engage with spectators. Proud of their prized cars, many owners are eager to talk about their vehicles and share their knowledge. Whether attendees are considering purchasing a car or simply curious, these shows are an excellent opportunity to learn.
Many owners are happy to offer advice on where to find the cars you’re interested in, what they cost, and where to get them restored or maintained. Arizona boasts a wide variety of specialized shops catering to American, Italian, British, German, Japanese and other brands — so don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations.
One of Arizona’s standout car shows is Concours in the Hills — a free event dubbed the “Greatest Car Show on Grass” — set for Saturday, Feb. 15 in Fountain Hills and benefiting patients at Phoenix Children’s. In just over a decade, it has grown from a modest gathering of 200 cars and a few thousand spectators to a major extravaganza, filling the entire park and attracting over 1,000 cars and tens of thousands of visitors.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Phoenix Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Vehicle owners wishing to participate have until Friday, Jan. 17 to register and pay their entry fees.
Attendees will find everything from multimillion-dollar exotic cars and race cars to vintage and modern muscle cars, off-road vehicles, military trucks and even military helicopters, including Cobras and Vipers, with sports cars arranged around them. They also can expect plenty of food trucks and vendors offering a variety of car-related parts and services.
Attending a car show in Arizona is an experience that combines stunning vehicles with the opportunity to connect with passionate enthusiasts. Whether you’re a lifelong car lover or a first-time attendee, these events offer a unique window into the world of automotive culture.
Arizona’s perfect climate and vibrant community make it a prime destination to celebrate cars, camaraderie and charitable giving.
