Walk event Saturday in Florence hosted by Saguaro Sun Striders Volkssport Club

All are invited to a walk event Saturday, Feb. 29, hosted by the Saguaro Sun Striders Volkssport Club.

The walk starts at the Florence Library and Community Center, 778 N. Main in Florence. Walkers may start any time between 9-11 a.m., but must finish by 2 p.m., according to a release.

The 10K route consists of two different 5K loops so those not wanting to walk the entire 10K can choose which loop to walk. One loop highlights historical buildings in Florence and the other will go out to the Windmill Winery and back. It is a noncompetitive walk.

Volkssporters typically walk “for credit,” which means they keep Volkssport books and enter the event’s stamp in event and/or distance books, thereby tracking their progress over time. Walking for credit costs $3, the release states.

Free walkers are welcome but all participants must register for the walk.

"Feel free to stop by and find out more about Volkssport. There are walks all over the U.S. --- and world --- so it’s a good way to see other areas when you travel," the release states.
