A total of 45 teams of middle-school students from Arizona created future cities in large tabletop models and showed them Jan. 25 at the DiscoverE’s Future City Competition regional finals at Casteel High School.
The competition is a non-profit educational program that asks middle-school students to imagine, design and build cities of the future, according to a release.
The students presented and defended their cities with a theme of “Clean Water: Tap Into Tomorrow” to judges at the competition.
“Future City students see engineering as a direct influence on their lives --- why math and science are relevant to their world --- and make a hands-on connection between their education, Arizona and their future,” according to the release.
