San Tan Valley man pleads guilty to voting illegally in the 2020 election

Posted

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich  announced that Roberto Garcia of San Tan Valley pleaded guilty on Monday, July 25 in Pinal County Superior Court for casting a vote in the 2020 General Election while he was not eligible to do so due to prior felony convictions.

Garcia pled guilty to one count of illegal voting.  In its press release announcing the plea, the attorney general’s office did not state which candidates Garcia voted for.

Garcia was charged in an indictment issued in March, which alleged that Garcia falsely completed a voter registration form indicating that he had not been convicted of a felony or that his rights had been restored. However, Garcia previously had been convicted of two felony offenses and had not had his rights restored since his second conviction in 2006.

He faces a sentence of between six months and two-and-a-half years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. Garcia is due back in court for sentencing before Judge Jason Holmberg on Monday, Aug. 22 at 1:30 p.m.

This case was investigated and is being prosecuted by the Arizona Attorney General’s Office Election Integrity Unit.
