Queen Creek’s Crismon High takes the stage

The Crismon High School Theater Company is hitting center stage with its upcoming production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

The production runs May 1-3 with tickets available at CrismonTheater.com.

In just two years, Crismon’s theater program has grown with plans to expand even further in the next school year by offering courses in both stagecraft and musical theater.

CHS art and theater instructor Randall Thorn stated that he is incredibly proud of the students involved in this production and the momentum the program has built.

“We're doing four main stage productions a year now, and I just think it's really thrilling for everyone in the area to know that Crismon has some really killer kids that are doing some really killer theater,” he stated in a press release from the Queen Creek Unified School District. “I could not be more proud of how the program is growing by leaps and bounds. Drama for junior high, theater for high school — now we have stagecraft I and II for next year, and soon a musical theater course as well.”

To encourage maximum student participation, each main role in the production of “Little Shop of Horrors” has two student leads.

Kyle M., who plays one of the Seymours in the musical, shared what makes the CHS Theater Company special to him.

“My favorite part of the theater program is how inclusive everyone is. It doesn't matter your skill level. Everyone is like a big old family, and everyone just has fun.,” Kyle stated. Without (Thorn), I think that our show would not be where it is today. He makes sure we give our best.”

Genevieve G., one of the students cast as Audrey, found it hard to choose a favorite part of the experience.

“Do I have to choose a favorite? I really love the music side. I love how everyone is really welcoming. If I'm having trouble with anything, I can just ask someone who I know is good at it. Everyone is so helpful,” she stated.

She also reflected on what makes Crismon’s theater program different.

“Here we have time to work on what we know we're having trouble with. We can make mistakes and grow from them,” Genevieve added.
