Queen Creek veteran gifted new air conditioning system

Posted

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran from Queen Creek has received a very welcome gift during these hot summer months.

As part of its fifth annual Honor Our Warriors A/C Giveaway, Shanen Dunagan received a new air conditioning unit valued at more than $15,000 from ACE Home Services.

The company installed the unit free-of-charge on Wednesday.

Shanen, who served in the Marines for 10 years, was selected as this year’s recipient from a pool of veterans from the Phoenix and Yavapai County communities. While stationed in Afghanistan, Shanen almost lost his life in an explosion that led to 15 surgeries and disability.

“After the accident, Shanen struggled with numerous health issues and post-traumatic stress disorder. Eventually, he would turn his pain into purpose, now working with local nonprofit Survivors of War to help other veterans with mental health struggles by offering them free and confidential support on a 24-hour suicide line,” a press release stated.

Shanen lives in Queen Creek with his wife, Monica, and their four children. The family has been dealing with air-conditioning issues for the past five years. In the recent record-breaking heat, the Dunagan home reached temperatures higher than 90 degrees.

"Shanen’s dedication to giving back to his fellow veterans inspired our whole team, and we knew he was the perfect candidate for this donation," stated A.J. Rooney, president of ACE Home Services, in the release.  “As a veteran myself, I know first-hand the sacrifices that families like the Dunagans have made on behalf of our country. This is the least we can do to honor those in our community that have served and continue to set an example of selfless service for others to follow.”

ACE technicians visited the Dunagan home and found that ductwork was a primary issue causing the cooling challenges. Along with installing the new system, the ACE team rebuilt the home’s ductwork.

The annual giveaway is part of ACE’s mission to give back to the community it serves. It has given donations or created partnerships with local charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Mary’s Food Bank, the Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul.
