Queen Creek police have tips for safe holiday shopping

As residents dive into the holiday shopping season, the Queen Creek Police Department offers these tips to safely shop in person and even online:

  • Bring only the cash and credit cards needed. Keep cash separate from ID and credit cards.
  • Be alert. Purses and wallets may be targets in crowded shopping areas. Be wary of those who create distractions.
  • Limit the use of cell phones and other devices when in public areas because they can diminish alertness.
  • Use ATMs located in well-lit areas and only withdraw the amount of cash needed.
  • Protect PINs by shielding ATM keypads. Do not throw away ATM receipts in public.
  • Always lock cars and store purchases out of sight. Don’t leave valuables in cars.
  • If shopping at night, park in well-lit areas. Always be aware of the surroundings.
  • When shopping online, conduct business with familiar companies and shop at secure websites.
  • Regularly check credit card and bank statements for fraudulent use. Report any fraudulent charges to banks, credit bureaus and law enforcement.

Once home, QCPD advises residents to remove all valuables from their vehicles, lock all doors, turn on exterior lights.

With more people on the road, QCPD is also encouraging drivers to slow down, avoid distractions and use common courtesy.
