Queen Creek partners with Vitalant to host blood drive Sept. 14

Posted

Healthy blood donors are needed to help keep a strong supply. The Town of Queen Creek is partnering with Vitalant to host a blood drive 1:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 14.

To help slow the spread of COVID-19 and adhere to physical distancing guidelines, the drive will take place in the Zane Grey Room of the Queen Creek Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road.

Advance appointments are encouraged to help maintain physical distancing; go to Bloodhero.com (use sponsor code QueenCreek) or call 877-258-4825 to reserve your donation time.

Donating blood is safe; Vitalant is taking a number of extra precautions, including:

  • Only donors will be permitted in the blood drive room
  • Donors are required to bring and wear their own face covering
  • Donor temperatures will be taken upon arrival
  • Vitalant and other blood banks follow FDA-regulated procedures, adhering to rigorous safety and disinfection protocols
  • Do not donate if you're sick
  • The blood drive will be held indoors (not in the bloodmobile) where donors can be 6 feet
  • Advance appointments are encouraged to help maintain physical distancing

Vitalant is the sole provider of lifesaving blood transfusions for every hospital in 11 of 15 Arizona counties, including in Maricopa. Last spring, school and business closures led to 566 Arizona blood drives canceled due to the impact of COVID-19, resulting in a loss of more than 17,000 uncollected blood donations.

The Town of Queen and Vitalant will be holding monthly blood drives until January on the following dates: Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 11, Dec. 29 and Jan. 19. Visit Bloodhero.com (use sponsor code QueenCreek) or call 877-258-4825) to reserve your donation time for any of the upcoming blood drives.
