Queen Creek is gearing  up for its Earth Month celebrations in April.

Up first is the town’s annual, free Cardboard Box Car “Drive-in” Movie.

The town’s environmental services division will host the film “The Wild Robot” on Friday, April 4 at Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road.

Families are encouraged to build “box cars” made from cardboard and other recyclable materials for their kids and bring them to the movie screening.

Free popcorn and water will be served starting at 6:30 p.m., while supplies last. The movie will begin at sunset at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Event details, cardboard box car tips, and a link to register for the event can be found at QueenCreekAZ.gov/BoxCarMovie

The town is also hosting a kids' art contest focusing on reducing water use. The Reduce the Use Art Contest is open to K-12 students living in or attending school in the town’s water service area.

Submissions should answer the question, "How can you reduce your water use?" Art work must be confined to 8.5-by-11-inch paper and can be drawn or painted or consist of mixed media, digital or photography. Art must be two-dimensional only.

The deadline for the submissions and entry forms is 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 25. The artwork can be mailed or dropped off at the town’s municipal services building at 22358 S. Ellsworth Road, Queen Creek, AZ 85142.

The town's Downtown Arts and Placemaking Advisory Subcommittee will judge artwork based on originality, creativity and addressing the contest prompt.

Winning students will receive prizes and have their artwork displayed in the Queen Creek Library’s lobby during April.

For more information on the contest and to download an entry form, visit www.QueenCreekAZ.gov/ArtContest.

Additional resources to celebrate Earth Day every day in April — including an Earth Month calendar, Queen Creek trails scavenger hunt, a free drive-through recycling event, online games, and free landscape watering workshops — can be found at QueenCreekAZ.gov/EarthMonth.
