Police triumph at Queen Creek Founders’ Day

Posted

Congratulations to the Queen Creek Police Department for winning its first Battle of the Badge competition at the town’s Founders’ Day celebration.

After two straight years of falling short against the Queen Creek Fire and Medical Department, QCPD took home the winner’s trophy and bragging rights.

Battle of the Badge is one of the highlight events of the town’s annual Founders’ Day celebration. Police and fire engage in a friendly competition that includes potato sack races, tug of war, three-legged races and more.

Founders’ Day was held Sept. 16 at Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road.

A few weeks before the event, Queen Creek Fire Chief Vance Gray ribbed the police department a bit by pointing out that his crew had won the competition two years in a row. Before beating team QCPD in 2022, Gray said that in 2021 QCFMD had defeated a combined law enforcement team made of up members of the yet-to-be-launched Queen Creek Police Department and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley was on hand to congratulate the winning team.
