A hugely popular three-day event at Superstition Mountain Museum, The Magic of Mexican Artistry, will return this year 9 a.m.-4 p.m. March 13-15.

The museum is at 4087 N. Apache Trail (State Route 88), just east of Apache Junction.

In addition to the artists’ pottery-making demonstrations and sales exhibits, the Fiesta atmosphere will be punctuated by new additions of mariachi music and dance, and storytelling performed by, among others, well-known Mesa sculptor, maskmaker and musician Zarco Guererro, according to a release.

Carving and painting techniques resulting in the exquisite whimsical animals from Oaxaca will also be showcased, as will the centuries-old dyeing and weaving techniques used in traditional Zapotec weaving, and the intricacies involved in creating handmade silver jewelry. Admittance to the day events and parking are free.

Local favorite Master Potter Lila Silveira will be joined by prizewinning potter Jerardo Tena and his wife, Norma Hernandez. They will be demonstrating their unique pottery-making skills that result in the superb pottery created in the village of Mata Ortiz.

Reina Ramirez, who along with her husband is famous for practicing the folk art tradition of carving detailed whimsical animals and painting them in patterns and bright color, will be returning.

Porfirio Gutierrez, part of a Zapotec weaving family with generations of artisans before him, will also again be at the museum demonstrating his craft and explaining the benefits of weaving textiles in the traditional Zapotec way using natural dyes from insects, plants and minerals native to Mexico.

Yesenia Salgado, a gifted artisan creating gorgeous and unique silver filigree jewelry, will also be returning.

Tickets to an evening concert, still in the planning stages, will be $10 per person.
