Higley High School wins boys division II Arizona golf state championship

The Higley Knights boy’s golf team brought home Higley High School’s first ever golf state championship when it won the division II state tournament.

Head Coach Ted Horn and the team members could not be more excited to win this coveted state title to Higley Unified School District.

Higley’s winning squad consisted of two seniors, Damon Vilkauskas and Josh Nielsen; and four juniors, Colton Horn, Brady Wilson, Aadith Mosur and Kai Heiner.

The Knights came in fifth place at last year’s state tournament. Coach Horn knew coming into this year that the team had a good shot at placing in the top three, but winning the title was no easy feat at the Omni Tucson National Resort in late October.

“We had a couple of tough holes at the turn,” Horn said. “But after that, our kids buckled down and were clutch down the stretch.”

The Knights’ golf team win is the first athletic state title of the 2019-20 school year for the Higley Unified School District.
