Henry “Bud” Hoberg

Posted

The Lord said, “That is enough,” and took Henry home on October 11, 2020.
Henry was born in Duluth MN to Edmund & Candide Hoberg on May 5th, 1932. The family eventually settled in California, where Ed Hoberg established the Wagon Wheel Bowl in Oxnard. Bud worked and managed the business from the ages of 10 through 34. During that time, he became a member of the original Pro Bowlers Association (PBA) where he spent many years competing throughout the state. Additionally, Bud shared his expertise in bowling by giving lessons to students from ages 5 to 95. He continued to give lessons throughout his life.
Later, Bud became a civil servant with the US Navy Facility at Pt Mugu, California. He retired from Civil Service after a 30-year career in 1993. He served in the Army during the Korean war where he oversaw feeding 1500 troops. His love of cooking lasted his entire life, as he created recipes and eventually wrote his own cookbook.
Bud married Joanne Salado in 1954 and was widowed 2 years later. He is survived by their daughter Eddi Lynn Christensen. He married Catherine “Kitty” Diener in 1962 and is survived by their two daughters, Danna Yates (Jim) and Karen Guenther (George). He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Bud and Kitty retired to Sun City, Arizona in 2001. Bud’s passion, besides bowling and golfing was to make people laugh and lifting their spirits. He had a lasting sense of humor and a wit that brought a smile to every room he entered-- even in his final days. He is known by his family as the “King of the one liners”.
Interment will be in Oxnard California in December.
