Gilbert Fire and Rescue launches its first ambulance service
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
Gilbert residents needing medical transport may soon find themselves riding in an ambulance operated by the Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department.
On Nov. 18, the department put its first ambulance, Medic 253, in service. The ambulance will be crewed by trained civilian emergency medical technicians and paramedics out of Fire Station 3, 1011 E. Guadalupe Road, according to a release.
“We are excited to launch our first ambulance service,” Gilbert Fire and Rescue Chief Jim Jobusch said in the release. “Adding ambulance services is in line with Gilbert’s City of the Future initiative, ensuring that if there is a disruption in service from the private sector, we will continue to have the ability to get patients to the hospital when they need it most. Gilbert will continue to work with our private ambulance partner, American Medical Response, and AMR will remain the primary ambulance transportation service in Gilbert.”
The department’s goal is to maintain fast and efficient response times and the new ambulance will be dispatched the same way all current ambulances have been, keeping the location and proximity as the priority, the release states.
Just as they would with any ambulance service, patients served by Medic 253 will receive a bill from Gilbert with the transportation fees set and mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
