Fiancée of Pinal County sheriff’s son dies a week after Gilbert crash

Posted

Caroline Patten died Dec. 23, a week after a crash in Gilbert that killed her daughter and fiancé, Cooper Lamb, the son of Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

The sheriff, in a video posted on his Facebook site, said Patten had died and asked for prayers for her family.

Gilbert police are investigating the crash that occurred about 3:45 p.m. Dec. 16 at Elliot Road and Cole Drive.

According to Gilbert Police, a silver truck was traveling westbound on Elliot Road “at what appeared to be normal speeds when it struck a red passenger car traveling eastbound as it attempted to make a left-hand turn onto North Cole Drive.”

Gilbert Police and Gilbert Fire and Rescue attempted lifesaving measures on the three occupants in the red car. Cooper Lamb, 22, and his 1-year-old daughter, Elaine, were pronounced dead at the scene. Patten was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the pickup involved in the collision has been identified as 21-year-old Brian Torres, according to a Gilbert police report.

“After an on-scene DUI investigation was conducted, Torres was arrested, transported to the Gilbert Police Department Main Station, and processed for DUI. The investigation is still ongoing at this time to determine the most appropriate charges, and a laboratory analysis of Torres's blood is still pending.

“Once the investigation is complete, charges may be referred to the appropriate prosecutor's office,” a press release stated.

In his Facebook post, Lamb thanked “everybody for the amazing support, the love and the prayers! We feel so blessed as a Family!

“Please keep Caroline’s Family in your prayers as Caroline passed last night and is in Heaven with Cooper and our sweet Elaine.”
