Elyse Torbert new principal for Queen Creek Elementary School

Elyse Torbert is the new principal of Queen Creek Elementary School, 23636 S. 204th St.

The hiring of Mrs. Torbert was approved at the March Queen Creek Unified School District Governing Board meeting.

She replaces Chasity Cruz, who has been named the principal of Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary School, QCUSD’s newest school, starting in the 2020-21 school year.

“We are fortunate to have Elyse join the QCUSD family. Elyse’s skills and experience are a great match for our district and the QCE team,” Dr. Perry Berry, QCUSD superintendent, said in the release.

Mrs. Torbert has more than 20 years of experience in public education.

Since moving to the East Valley in 2017 to be closer to her family, she has worked as assistant principal/director of curriculum in another East Valley school district.

Prior to moving to Arizona, Mrs. Torbert lived in Massachusetts where she worked at two large urban-suburban high schools just west of Boston. She has taught both math and English, has been a director for a tiered intervention program supporting at-risk students, and served as a vice-principal, associate principal, and principal.

Serving as an educator comes naturally for Mrs. Torbert as her mother was an elementary school teacher and reading specialist, the release states.

“I am excited to tackle the new challenges and opportunities ahead in leading Queen Creek Elementary,” Mrs. Torbert said in the release.

She and her husband have two children. Keilani, 7, is in second
grade and an avid reader; while Kainoa, 3, her younger brother, is in pre-school.
