Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at Ellsworth Elementary, 38454 N. Carolina Ave. in San Tan Valley, in the office open 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays except on school holidays.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners.
Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping themcreate, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited, the release states.
Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe-drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti earned enough to send her son to law school.
"We are excited about our shoe drive," Michelle Mandarino, PTO president, said in the release. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for playground improvements and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone.”
By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to the Ellsworth Elementary PTO, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world, the release states.
Ellsworth Elementary PTO is a a parent-teacher organization that works to provide activities that will enrich the students, work to enhance the school and learning environment by providing needed and requested items to the school, work to promote goodwill between the school and community and to promote school and community spirit or morale.
